A New Chapter to Arbitration in Hong Kong: Outcome Related Fee Structures for Arbitration Seminar was held at SCIAHK

Co-organised by Department of Justice, Hong Kong SAR, China Legal Service (HK) Ltd, In-House Lawyers Committee of The Law Society of Hong Kong and HKCEA Legal Affairs Steering Committee, A New Chapter to Arbitration in HK: Outcome Related Fee Structures for Arbitration (“ORFSA”) Seminar was held at SCIAHK. Mr. Anthony Neoh, SC, Chairman of the Board, SCIAHK and Mr. Chen Jun Sheng, Chairman of China Legal Service (HK) Ltd, Chairman of The HKCEA Legal Affairs Steering Committee, both gave the opening remarks and Ms. Teresa Cheng, SC, Secretary for Justice of The Government of the Hong Kong SAR gave the closing remarks for the seminar. Nearly 400 attendees participated in this seminar through the hybrid format.

 

 

 

 

Ms. Kathryn Sanger, Co-chair, ORFSA Sub-committee of the Law Reform Commission of HK introduced the Law Reform Commission Report on ORFSA. Based on the Government introduced the Arbitration and Legal Practitioners Legislation (Outcome Related Fees Structures for Arbitration) (Amendment) Bill 2022 into the Legislative Council, a panel discussion on how will ORFSA change the arbitration landscape in Hong Kong was chaired by Mr. Huen Wong, Executive Chairman, SCIAHK, Ms. Kathryn Sanger, Co-chair, ORFSA Sub-committee of the Law Reform Commission of HK, Mr. C. M. Chan, President, The Law Society of HK, Member of ORFSA Sub-committee of the Law Reform Commission of HK, Dr. Benny Lo, Member of ORFSA Sub-committee of the Law Reform Commission of HK and Mr Nick Chan, Vice-Chairman of HKGCC – Legal Committee.

 

 

 

The seminar was supported by a number of international organisations, legal community and dispute resolution institutions, including Asian Academy of International Law, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre, Hong Kong Bar Association, International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong Maritime Arbitration Group and China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission Hong Kong Arbitration Center.
