SCIAHK participated in the delegation of the Guangdong Province Law Society and the SCIA in visiting the Hague Conference on Private International Law

 

     On 2 June 2023, South China International Arbitration Center HK (SCIAHK) joined the delegation of the Guangdong Province Law Society and the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) led by Dr. YUAN Gujie, President of the Guangdong Province Law Society in visiting the headquarters of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH).

 

     On the 130th anniversary of the establishment of HCCH, Dr. Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary-General of HCCH welcomed Dr. YUAN Gujie and her delegation. Dr. Christophe Bernasconi introduced the background, development of HCCH and the latest situation in promoting the unification of private international law rules to the Guangdong delegation.

 

     Dr. YUAN Gujie, President of the Guangdong Province Law Society and head of the delegation introduced the construction of an international business environment under the rule of law, marketization, and internationalization in China, in particular to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Dr. YUAN Gujie had deep discussion with Secretary-General, Christophe Bernasconi. ZHAO Ning, Principal Legal Officer, and Melisa Kiang, Senior Counsel (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region representative to HCCH) were also involved in the discussion.

 

     Mr. ZHANG Qinghong, Vice President of the Guangdong Province Law Society; Mr. SUN Taiping, President of the Guangzhou Law Society; Dr. LIU Xiaochun, Executive Chairman of SCIAHK and President of SCIA attended the visit and joined the discussion.

 

     HCCH was established in 1893, it is a specialized intergovernmental international organization that researches and formulates private international law treaties. HCCH is named after its’ meeting place in the Hague, Netherlands and is notably the most effective and influential international organization in unifying conflict of laws and procedural laws, consisting of 91 formal members (including 90 countries and 1 regional economic organization - the European Union). China has joined the international organization on 3 July 1987.

 

     This visit is an important measure to further strengthen international legal exchanges and cooperation with HCCH headquarters after the SCIAHK and SCIA visited HCCH Asia Pacific Regional Office on 24 February 2023.
