SCIAHK Participated in the delegation of Guangdong Province Law Society and SCIA in visiting several European universities

 

     During 28 May to 2 June 2023, the South China International Arbitration Center HK (SCIAHK) participated in the delegation of the Guangdong Province Law Society and the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) led by Dr. YUAN Gujie, President of the Guangdong Province Law Society. During the visit to Europe, the delegation successively visited numerous universities, including Aix-Marseille Université in France, Sapienza University of Rome and Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam in Netherlands etc. During the visit, an academic exchange conference was held to strengthen academic exchanges in international commercial arbitration and train high-end foreign-related legal talents in reaching several cooperation consensuses.

 

     Mr. ZHANG Qinghong, Vice President of Guangdong Province Law Society; Mr. SUN Taiping, President of Guangzhou Law Society; Dr. LIU Xiaochun, Executive Chairman of South China International Arbitration Center (Hong Kong) and President of Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration etc., participated in the exchange virtual symposium.

 

     The Aix-Marseille Université was originated and founded by Louis II in 1409. Currently, the Aix-Marseille Université is the largest university in France and French-speaking countries and regions. The Faculty of Law at the Aix-Marseille Université is one of the largest in France and is considered as one of the country's leading centers for legal research and teaching. The school of law has a Eurasian Research Institute, headed by Professor JIN Banggui, who has long-term academic exchanges between China and France.

 

     The Sapienza University of Rome, also known as the First University of Rome, was founded in 1303. The University is one of the oldest universities in the world and also counted as the largest in Italy and third largest in Europe. The Sapienza University of Rome sits a leading position in Italy in terms of teaching quality, scientific research, and international influence. The Law School of the Sapienza University of Rome is the earliest and largest school faculty at the University and consists of diligent teachers and many well-known scholars who have a high reputation globally. Professor Oliviero Diliberto, the current dean of the Faculty of Law of the Sapienza University of Rome, was once served as the Minister of Justice of Italy, the General Secretary of the Italian Communist Party, and a member of the Italian Parliament for four terms. Professor Oliviero Diliberto welcomed the Guangdong Province delegation at the Faculty of Law of the Sapienza University of Rome and conducted deep discussion with President YUAN Gujie and her delegation. 

 

     The Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam is located in Rotterdam, named after the famous Dutch humanist thinker Desiderius Erasmus in the Middle Ages. The Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam ranks amongst the best in various world university rankings all year round, with many outstanding figures in political and business circles having born here, for example: the Nobel Prize winner Jan Tinbergen; former Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende; former World Monetary Fund President Barend Biesheuvel; former World Trade Organization Consul General; Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Supachai Panitchpakdi, etc. Professor Peter Malanczuk, one of the Directors of SCIAHK and a Council Member of SCIA, used to be the Chief Professor of international law and the dean of the law department at Erasmus University. The Erasmus China Law Center, headed by Professor LI Yuwen, is the achievement of collaboration between Erasmus University, Chinese universities, and research institutions throughout the years. The legal academic exchange between China, the Netherlands and the European Union was an important milestone. The Erasmus China Law Center made long-term promotion in teaching and conducting research on Chinese law in the Netherlands.
